Hackers 'using Search Engine Optimization and social networks' to infect computers

Cybercriminals are using (SEO) search engine optimization techniques to infect as many internet users as possible, it has been claimed.

According to Panda Security, a cloud-based security safety solutions company, hackers are exploiting search engines and user-generated type of content (UGC) with the aim of infecting a big number of computers as quickly as possible.

Javier Merchan of Panda Security said that the use of SEO and UGC harass did not necessarily mean that cybercriminals were receiving more sophisticated.

"Social networks and SEO attacks are just fresh platforms for cybercriminals. They are using old and new techniques to contaminate as many people as possible..

He added that there was a need for superior awareness of the Trojans and fake anti-virus programs stretch by UGC and SEO attacks.

"There is not sufficient awareness of such programs, neither in the business field nor the consumers. This is something safety vendors have to improve. We have to educate people to get better their security.
